help please

hi,
Im not really sure what the problem is but when i turn on my mac i can type in my password and everything comes up but i cant open any programs it just never loads or starts to load. can anyone tell me why its doing this/ how to fix it thanks

Try booting from your Mac OS X Install Disk then run Disk Utility, select your hard drive, and select "Repair Disk". Reboot. Problem solved? NO!

Try reinstalling Mac OS if the solution above didn't work.
