Wink 17" macbook pros with removable batteries

can anyone direct me to where I can find the information regarding which macbook pro 17" models still have removable batteries? The apple.com site is very difficult to manuever to find this information. I guess I"m supposed to know that the lithium ion is or isn't vs. the lithium p-whatever isn't or is.

I have model numbers ie 470ll/a and 486ll/a but entering this information merely sends me to sites to purchase. The 486 is from early 2008; the 470 is from early 2009 (I believe). The 486 has 8600 vs. the 470 9600 nvidia (which doesn't seem to be that much of a difference)...but I'm trying to decide whether the 486 17" at 1900 and 8600 Nvidia is a much better "deal" than the 15.4" at 1800 with 9600 Nvidia that is one year 'newer' (Both are new, just the 17" is from early 2008.

Thanks.

There's 'tech spec' product pages available for most recent models. That should have all the config info that you could ever want.

Which 17-inch models have swappable batteries? You can tell by looking. Aluminum key caps, no contrasting color on the screen, and your battery is swappable. Black keys, and black trim around the screen? The battery is not swappable.
The battery continues to be removable, just not as simple as before, and, of course, is not considered a user-serviceable part.

that's where I was before I gave up and posted on the forum. Can't seem to find the "486ll/a" anywhere except online. I am assuming the 17" MACbook pro circa early 2008 is what I'm looking for (though the number is different). So, no idea as to whether the extra $100 is a better deal? Originally, the computer was $2800, now only $1900 hurry hurry hurry (Macmall.com). vs the new 15.4" $1800 470ll/a.

The MB486LL/A, and the MB166LL/A are both the early 2008 17-inch MacBook Pro. Seems the only difference is the display. 166 is the matte display, and the 486 designation has the optional glossy display. If you don't want the glossy, then you would need to contact that vendor to make sure of what you are getting.

15 vs 17?
The 17-inch has much more screen space, but is overall much larger and somewhat heavier, leaving you with a laptop that's a _little_ less portable than the 15-inch.

You know, I think I'm going to go with the newer 15" version. Yes, it has just the 800 firewire but for $20 I can get an adapter; Yes, it's a little smaller, but I plan on using an adapter and hooking it up as a hard drive to my cinema display most of the time, so the versatility of the 15 vs 17 and being lighter is really what I want it for...when I need to unplug and go. The Nvidia is a little faster, the machine newer, and the battery is still removable. Thanks for your info...and apparently the only place to even find the 485 is Macmall....and it is over a year old in the box apparently. So, newer = better.
