macbook has a reoccuring blue screen

My MacBook started running slowly yesterday with the color wheel popping up frequently. I restarted it and it started having more trouble. It boots up, but I can't open any programs. Also it goes alternates between the blue screen, black and the desktop.

I've taken the battery out, restarted, started with the ⌘ and S key and typed in /sbin/fsck -fy. it checked everything and said the harddrive appeared ok. I exited and it went back to the desktop for a minute, but then started alternating again.

help! what should i do?
