Question Audio problem on iBook G4

Hello everyone,

I'm having a little trouble on my iBook G4. I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.11.

While listening to some music on iTunes I noticed that the volume was louder coming from one of the speakers than the other. So, I go into "Applications">"Utilities">"Audio MIDI Setup"

Sure enough, one of the values (Channel 1, left speaker) was at 0.94 while the other (Channel 2, right speaker) was still at 1.00. So I just pulled it back up to 1.00 too and shrugged it off. Well, it kept happening over, and over, and over again. I finally tracked down the source of the problem. When I plug in headphones, it causes the left speaker to go down, but the right speaker doesn't change. When I unplug the headphones, the left speaker goes back up to 1.00, but then the right speaker goes down to 0.94.

I'm completely puzzled as to why it would do this. Does anyone know why it does this and if there is any way to fix it?

Thanks,
toxictaipan

That issue can sometimes be fixed with a PRAM reset.

Restart, while holding Option-Apple(command)-p and r.
You'll hear the boot chime. Keep holding those same 4 keys until you hear the chime 2 more times, then release the keys to let your iBook startup normally.

Resetting the PRAM didn't help.

Anything else I can do?
