Angry Help! OS X won't display the standard Font dialog!

Well, I've had this problem for quite a while, but it hasn't really bothered me, until now... The thing is this; Whenever I try to bring up the standard Font dialog (Via 'Show Fonts' in like the Terminal or TextEdit), nothing happens. It seems like somethings loading for a fraction of a second, since the menu stays highlighted for that amount of time, but then, nothing. I have no idea what's causing it, or what I may have done to cause it.
I suppose it's just a matter of removing some configuration file, but I haven't been able to find out which one.
On a related note, whenever I bring up the Character Palette window (the one you can add to the Input Menu item in the Menubar), it comes up for one second, then disappears for two seconds, only to come back for another second, and so on. That goes on until I hide it.
Really weird, I know, but I was hoping someone might have had the same problem, and solved it...
Does anyone know what's going on?
