Powerbook G4 won't Upgrade OS

As I try to upgrade to the latest OS on my Powerbook G4, it will start the download but hang about 1 inch in, if you know what I mean. It just stops and will stay there for hours. How do I fix this?

Let me clarify. This lock up happens initially when I am merely looking for the upgrade. It never finds the upgrade to begin with. it just hangs while searching for the most recent OS upgrade.

Would be helpful to know what version of OS X you have now...
Check under your Apple menu / About This Mac...
