Question about upgrading version of leopard?

Alright, check it out, When leopard first came out in 07, version 10.5, i bought a copy of it, now that its been a couple or more years, 10.5.7 is out, and i dont really want to pay for the same thing, so is there a way of downloading the combined update, and then making a new backup?
This cant be illegal.

Upgrading your own Leopard installer? No, no way to do that.
You CAN have a fresh install, updated to 10.5.7 plus all other updates, then use an app that will create an image of the installation (which Disk Utility will handle very nicely)

I prefer a fresh install of 10.5, then upgrade immediately to the 10.5.7 combo updater. I keep that on a flash drive, with an updated folder of current Leopard updates.
