Unhappy Problems with certain .avi files in QuickTime

I am running Mac OS X version 10.5.7. I am using the latest release of QuickTime and the Divx plugin.

Lately I have encountered a strange problem. Certain .avi files will only play their video. No audio whatsoever. This phenomenon was at first accompanied by an error message stating that additional software is needed, but the error message has stopped appearing. Since I am running the latest Divx plugin, I am unsure what I am missing. I have browsed the QuickTime components at
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resou...omponents.html, but since I am not sure what I should be looking for, I haven't been able to resolve the issue myself.

This does not occur with all files, only a few. If I give a copy of the file to a friend with a windows computer, he is able to run the file flawlessly.

I would be very grateful for suggestions as to what codex I might try to obtain.

.avi is a container format, not a file format. Most porn .avi videos are DivX, but all. Download and install the Perian codec suite. If you still can't play the video after installing Perian, then you need to give a link to your problematic videos.
