Transferring Data: Unix Executable FIle

I hope anyone can help me! All of my accounting for the past 10 years are in Quick Books 6.0. I have to transfer everything to Quick Books 2009.

I backed Quick Books 6.0 onto a jump drive. I have upgraded my old computer with OS 9.2.2 to a imac with OS 10.5.6. When I attempt to transfer the data from my jump drive, I receive the following message:

Backup: cannot execute binary file

It also says under "kind": unix executable file

I called Intuit and they could not help, they said it was a Mac problem. I called Mac, they said it was an Intuit problem.

OK. What is it that you cannot execute?

I will assume that you double-clicked a Quicken file expecting something useful to happen. Well, there is no way for MacOS X to associate your Quicken files with an application without a file extension or having Quicken installed. You must use either File/Open... or File/Import... to open your old files in your new app.

It's unclear from the question whether the original poster understands that there is QuickBooks the application, separate from your QuickBooks financial information, also known as a Company File. If you're trying to open a file called QuickBooks or QuickBooks 6.0 on the new computer, you're probably trying to open the application, which won't work.

On the old Mac, open QuickBooks and go to Help>Product Information. Look for "File Location." Note the location, navigate to it, and copy the file to the jump drive. Then copy the file to the new Mac and try opening the file in QuickBooks 2009. Report back with results.
