Java Preferences Crash

Running: Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

I have downloaded and installed the Java For Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1 and am unable to open the Java Preferences. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Yes, I recommend that you update to a newer version for Java.
Java for Mac OS X 10.5 is now at version 5...

You can also run your Software update, and that update should show up. You may also see that you are missing other updates when you do Software Update.

I had the same issue. Looks like that update fixed it though, thanks.

For some reason the updates for Java (and possibly other updates) do not show up in Software Update on my Mac. Any idea why?

Did you previously install that? it's been available for several weeks.
When you did a manual install, it likely cleaned up its own files, and that's what got you working again.
The latest update at this point, would be iTunes 9.0.2, which was released about a week ago.
