Word docs have been cross-platform compatible for years. What versions of Word are you using on the Mac and on Windows?

i'm using ms word 2003 in win xp. don't know about the mac version, someone else has provided me the documents. thanks a lot for having a look at it. if there's any solution, it'd be highly appreciated. |

If the person is using a version of Word older than 2001 (I think), maybe you won't be able to read it, but that still sounds unlikely. I assume since you prefaced your question by stating that they're .doc files that they actually have .doc extensions, right?

well, some files have .doc ext and some are only 'file' (s).

Do they all have Word document icons in Windows? If not, for the latter you should add the extension to the file name and see if it's openable. Also, try opening the files from the Word open dialog as opposed to opening them from their present location.

they have the icon for files, not the word doc icon. they are openable by ms word, but not readable. tried to change into .txt .rtf, .pdf etc and sometimes a msg appears that the encoding is not correct while opening. if it opens, then it is not in readable format. |
