Downloading problems please help.

Hi, Iam new to the mac family, just bought my first mac. I am having problems with downloading programs on to my mac. It is probably the most obvious thing but i am clueless when it comes to using a mac. I have been trying to download msn on to my computer and a downloading program for music but each time i complete downloading and go to open the file i get this incripted message and the download is not there. I am just at a loss and i have looked all over the internet for some kind of help and i am starting to figure it out that maybe mac is not compatible with msn or that is not it at all. If anyone can help me awesome. thanks

Microsoft Messenger can be downloaded here:

Can you please come back with what that cryptic message is - when you try to donwload some software.
You do have software that you can use for downloading music that came with your Mac. It's called iTunes....

Can you tell what other software that you have tried to download?
Remember that most software that you may have used before on PCs, with Windows - probably won't be available in a version that runs on your Mac. There's some exceptions to that, such as LimeWire (I'm not recommending that you use LimeWire - I just use that as an example of software that is available in different versions, both Windows, and Mac.)

Well, yes, 'someone' has to buy the songs. Not you, apparently...

I don't know - maybe Acqlite?

Also, there's Frostwire - apparently better on the Mac than Limewire

Maybe someone else will be able to help you steal music...
This site doesn't provide support for that.

There is music that one can get for free. Classical and folk music and some old popular music is available for free because the copyrights have expired.

And often that 'free' music is either available as simple downloads, without using the clumsy sharing process - or part of albums that an artist/publisher sells, which still leaves the question.
