My Itunes are grayed out

Hi,

I have an external hard drive with its own Itunes library. This has been fine until recently when we had the hard drive repaired. Now when I try to sync the songs, they are grayed out and there is no music on the Ipod.
There are two playlists with the same music (my library). One of them looks normal, but the one below "my device" is grayed out. I can't get any music onto the Ipod, even after restoring it to factory settings. Help!

I already tried to select "manually update" as I saw that as a common answer but that didn't work either.
