Reply With QuoteThe skype client does indeed allow you to turn the camera off without the need to resort to sticky tape.
While in the video session, you will find a hover over red depiction of a video camera that you can click to turn the transmission of your picture off.
Alteranately, why not simply dial without camera in the first place.

How do I switch off iSight Camera? Using Skype in poor broadband area I have to put black tape across camera to get decent audio. Skype does not offer a deselect camera option. How else can I select it off?

In Skype's preferences, you can deselect the video, and/or at least deselect the option to automatically start video calls.
