    Welcome to the forum.
if you click on the apple (top left corner) then on "About this Mac" and finally click on "more info" you get to see all your machines specs.
Your G5 is running 10.4.11 the final version of OS X Tiger and a good solid operating system.
If you can source an install DVD for OS X Leopard (10.5) your G5 can also run this version, but 10.5.xx is as far as your PPC based iMac can go.
You'll need a retail DVD as an install disk made for another model of Mac will not work.
In most cases it would be to your advantage to max out the onboard memory especially now that memory is so cheap, and your G5 iMac will provide you the best experience it is capable of.

Thanks for all your help, Can someone source 10.5 to me, it would be greatly appreciated, i can/will provide shipping details...

Note: I have tried to download Progeams/Apps, and most of them, well all of them are saying either or: This app cannot be installed on current OS X Version, or it will say this is only for 10.5 or higher, so i guess that I am stuck with no programs or apps until i get 10.5 correct?

Not only 10.5 system, but many recent versions of apps will not work on a PPC, and require an Intel processor. Those will not work for you, regardless of your OS X version.

For 10.5 installers - check Amazon (pretty expensive, and remains that way)

    or
    Ebay.

    Yes, it's quite simple:
Sell your G5 iMac, and purchase an Intel Mac.
    (sorry!)
No, you can't modify your iMac in that way.

Maybe someone else will add about the value of your iMac.

Ok, Can someone tell me what the worth of my version of the iMac is and what will be the best option if i decide to get rid of it, thanks again, guys... First forum i have been on for anything that i have actually received help and responses, i really do appreciate all of your help.

Just curious as if it is worth it to keep it and upgrade it to OSX 10.5.xx if 10.5 can run garageband, aperture, and photoshop elements/lightroom???? I'm an artist an need to make my house Music, and justify my photography and my business>>>>I really need an honest answer to this Question, thanks.

    Sincerely, MacNewbie88

P.S.: I have just used the Software Update function in The Finder and there is 2 updates, a JAVA Update and a Safari Update, ok my ? is it requires the use of a password for the ADMIN, I was given the iMac with no instruction manuals, cd's or other Media/Information. How do i get by this so i can do the needed software upgrades? or how do i create a new user account to work under?
