    Free Alternative apps?

i was wondering if there is a free alternative to these programs:

    MainMenu
    Xslimmer
    Adobe Illustrator CS 8.0

    and PowerPC alternatives to these:
    Google Chrome
    Adobe Flash Player 11
    Java 1.6

and also is AppleWorks 6 a free program? i can get the update from the apple site but can't seem to find the actual program. I know it was included standard on Panther

The full version of AppleWorks is not available anywhere on the net to download for free. You paid for those apps that Apple included on install disks.

The PowerPC versions are older versions and you may be able to find them if you do a search on their site. Universal versions will work on your PPC as well. If you do a search at MacUpdate.com, you should be able to find alternatives which will include shareware. Know that many sharewares are just as good if not {in some cases} better. Read the reviews of your selections to get a good read on the app.

Apple's Pages program will open Appleworks word-processing documents, and Numbers will open spreadsheets. I use both on a G4 laptop. If you make changes, you can save only in the new formats. These programs cost money, but they're cheaper than wasting time looking for "free" tools.

I don't know if anything will open Appleworks database documents.

Nothing is going to get you a parity on features for free. InkScape is a very capable vector graphics editor, and can do a lot of the same things Illustrator can.

If you're looking for a piece of software that does 100% of what Adobe Illustrator does, then your only choice is Adobe Illustrator.

If you can provide specific features that you're looking for in a vector graphics editor, perhaps we can provide more direction, but if you're simply looking for Illustrator, then get Illustrator, as there's nothing out there that is 100% like Illustrator except for Illustrator.

Your opinion is not based on actual fact.
Panther (OS X 10.3) did not include AppleWorks with the basic system install.
