In Mail just open Mail and in Mail's Preferences, Viewing mini-tab to get the three column look. For individual email coloring just set up a rule of a particular email address receipts of email group. To easy without third party shareware.
Letterbox for Apple Mail apparently is gone for 10.7. One feature I liked was alternating colors for the entries in the mail list. Does anyone know another way to get this?

Maybe you did not understand. I want to stay in two columns. I want the main mail list to alternate colors like the two color computer paper of old with alternating green and then white lines.
