Try this to keep you Mac running clean. Clear out your Internet cache about once every three to four months with program like either Yasu (Yet another System Utility) or Onyx and run the cleaning routines. Let the program reboot your Mac and then upon that reboot, immediately manually reboot again to completely rebuild your system startup/shutdown cache. IMHO this will keep a Mac running almost like the day you first turned it on, running clean.
