Which files are you trying to recover? I ask because a lot of those older system Software might not be compatible with the new version of OS X.
I'm trying to migrate files from a PowerMac G4 to a G5. Both are running updated osx 10.4.11.
When I try to the G5 in migration assistant, my G5 won't recognize the restart on the "Restart you old mac" screen.
When I try to migrate from the G4, migration assistant can't find the G5.
I know the firewire ports and cable work, since i can establish a normal computer to computer connection. But this time I need migration assistant to work. Can anyone help me?

Would target disk mode be an option for you?

Thanks. I was trying to move some software form my old to my new computer. But the problem got solved when I found my install disks. Sorry. Thanks anyway.
I not sure of the target disk. That was always something I didn't understand, and stayed away from. I got my problem solved though. Thanks anyway.
