iTunes, browse by Label, would be cool.

Wouldn't this be really good: Browse by Label!

umm ... Label?

Do you mean publisher label (eg: Sony, Shock, EMI), or the comment field, or what?

Of course, you can browse by any field that iTunes uses just by showing that field in the list view (ctrl-click a heading to select what fields you want to show) and then sort on that field by clicking that heading.

*edit* On re-reading this, I have a sneaking suspicion you are referring to the cover art. Is that what you mean?

You can make a "Smart Playlist" to sort by ranking...

What do you mean by Label? Record Label?

I agree that iTunes would be better if it contained fileds for record company and distributors. Then we could find all of the 4AD tracks.

...in the meantime you can methodically put "label=xyz distributor=abc" into the comments fields...

Browse by cover art? How would you sort that?

Maybe he means browse by label as in shirt labels... Perhaps he associates certain songs with certain shirts he owns, and he wants to organize them based on which shirt each song reminds him of.

Okay, that's stupid. Label probably means recording company, right?

Is this on iTunes or the Music Store? And why labels? "Oh, I just feel like listening to Sony artists at this moment." WTF?!

Take for example the Kranky Label, it has those really weird bands (like Godspeed, Low, Neu!, Out Hud, ..) and now take Warp records, they have electronic bands (like Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Autechre), and now take Fat Cat, it has more of the beautiful, magical music (like Sigur Ros, Múm, Bjork, ...), and now take...
You can go on like this for ages. Most labels (record companies) have only one style of music (not like the big ones like EMI, Sony, ... They have all the musicgenres)

And sometimes i DO feel like listening to Fat Cat, or maybe Warp Records..

That's why it would be really useful

Ah, ok, that makes sense. Though you could group your music in a Fat Cat playlist, or a Warp Records playlist. Or as Tommy said above, put those into your comment field and search from there. I guess I shouldn't be commenting, I have almost no idea what bands/artists I like are on what label. But thanks for clearing up the earlier confusion.
