context menue by holding mouse button?

    Hi folks,
I'm using mac os x and searching for a tool or a possibility to open the context menue of a file by not holding down the ctrl button and clicking the mouse button. In OS 9 there has been the possibility to just hold down the mouse button for a while? Same for OS X?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Easy, get a USB scroll wheel mouse (any major company), and right-click, you may not go back to a one button mouse! Holding down for a context menu is programmed into some browsers, but not with most OS X browsers(although OmniWeb does the button-hold down for menu trick, there may be others). There's always a short delay with holding the one mouse button down, but with a 'right-click', there's usually no delay at all

You can hold the mouse button down in many instances and it will pop up a menu, like in the Dock.
    Systems:
2.5 GHz MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB hard drive, runs 10.6.8
1.6 GHz iMac G5, 1.5 GB RAM, 120 GB hard drive, runs 10.4.11 (out of commission)
    iPhone 4, 16 GB, iOS 4.3.5

Oh, you just have to get a two button mouse! Why Apple does not include one with all new Macs is beyond me. Without it, you are really missing a great deal in OS X (I personally will not do combination keystrokes/mouse button actions - I just don't like it).

Karavite, how many buttons does your mouse have?

Apple's stance on mice seems to be simplicity. They want their mice to be as easy to use and nonthreatening as possible, and I can understand this from the neophyte/luddite computer user's perspective, as many people seem to have trouble with left- and right-clicking on Windows boxes. But a $3000 Powermac meant for Photoshop and Final Cut Pro should not have to ship with a simple, 1-button mouse.

What's the problem, here? Apple currently (and always) ships their systems with their single button mouse. That may change soon, but there's been rumors for a long time. the single-button works great, but OS X also supports multi-button and scroll wheel devices, and those can give you other options for interfacing with your system. I prefer multi button mouses, so I added one that I like, easy!
