A USB light can be useful at times, like to illumine your keyboard if you need it and you don't have the backlight.

Of course, with all things its a matter of personal taste, but my must have list reads:
GraphicConvertor, VideoLan Client, MPlayer, Fink, Konfabulator, SNES9x, Adobe Photoshop, Micro$oft Office, Macromedia DreamWeaver, Scanner, Wacom tablet and a USB Memory Key (indispensible!)

Diskwarrior: yes, definitely, but don't buy it at an apple store, they mark up everything they can!

SNES9X: How could I forget! This one truly is freeware "if you own the ROMs". Who ever said there are no games for the mac?

Please, both iChat and AIM are horrible. Adium is the only way to go.

1.6.2c or 2.0 alpha, it's all good

For text nothing beats LaTeX: On a Mac, nothing better than TeXShop.

Always good: Fink + FinkCommander (and everything you can find there: Gnome, The GIMP, TeX packages & convertors etc.)

Omni products are sweet: nice functions, nice interface.

Advice: learn to use you Terminal (Omni DiskSweep? -> "du -a | sort -nr | head - 20")
