Trouble In Paradise

Hi all. I am new at this, so please bear with. I have just bought a lime green iBook from my friend, used. It is running 10.2. I installed everything using my school's immaging drive. Everything worked fine for a few days, but now, I can't seem to read CDs (music) as volumes. Upon putting in a cd, I get the message "This disc contains no volumes that Mac OS can read". Do you guys have any advice? Also, sometimes, iTunes can access the CDDB and other times it can't. Any advice on that point? Finaly, sometimes some webpages resolve quite quickly, other times, (on the same network) they fail to resolve at all. These are normal pages, like amazon.com etc. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Did you also install OS 9? Have you tried things under there?

Do you have any problems using data CDs (i.e. could it possibly be the CD drive?)

Both the CDDB and webpage resolution problem sound like they could be the same thing, and may have nothing to do with the computer. I'd start with some regular network troubleshooting.

Welcome ~Charles.

Hopefully when you started out you did a clean install, reinitialized the hard drive and such. If not, I recommend that. Then run the software update and make sure you have 10.2.6 (though we are all waiting for the re-issue of 2.8)

I had a tangerine clambook that was giving me trouble with the cd. I got a cd-cleaner and that solved my problem.

About web problems, how are you connected to the net (lan or modem) and what browser are you using?

P.S. -- I checked my "About this Mac" thing, and yes, I am running 10.2.6
