webdav / iCal

I have set up my OSX server (10.2.8) to run webdav. I have been publishing/subscribing my ical calendars with no problems until now. I can subscribe to existing .ics file with no problems but I cannot publish new ones anymore. I get "Error : Calendar could not be published Unknown error trying to access server (409).". On the the Server itself ,in the httpd error_log file it says "No such file or directory:Missing one or more intermediate collections. Cannot create resource /dav/XXXX.ics/XXXX.ics. (409, 0).
Any ideas what has gone wrong?? I have run software updates since first setting the webdav up. will this have screwed anything up??
