touchpad stops working..

the touchpad on my ibook 800, running os x 10.2.8, have gotten this annoying habbit of freezing when it has been running for a while. it just totally stops working, and it wont start again from itself. the buttons are ok though, and i know that my external usb mouse is also working when my touchpad freezes.. to get it running again i have to put my machine to sleep for a short while.

is this a common problem, could it just be a conflict between the usb mouse and the touchpad or what could it be? since it is working 90% of the time i guess it's not a hardware problem, but something with the drivers or something..

any suggestions?
alex.
