Unhappy Installer 1.2(v159) continually crashes HELP!?!

I am using an Imac special edition DV model 400MHz PowerPC G3 I am running OSX Version 10.2.8 My original problem was trying to connect my new printer to the mac. The print center would not open up so I could select the drivers for the printer so I went to the console to see what was going on and the app would automatically crash. I downloaded print center repair v 3.0.2 from versiontracker.com and tried to verify and repair the print center application ownership and permissions. After verification was complete 27 files/directories were missing during the process. I looked for a new print center application to no avail. My next step was to load a newer system software such as 10.3.1 that is when I realized that my installer version 1.2 is crashing as well. From the information supplied can someone possibly guide me into the light so I can ractify this problem I am having!

First, go to Applications>Utility>Disk Utility. Click on First Aid, then the hard drive that hold OS X system folder, then verify permissions, last repair permissions.

Now try opening Print Center.

Do you have all the firmware updated on that iMac?
How much memory do you have installed?

Also, Boot from the OS CD (use 10.2 first) and at the installer screen, go to the installer menu> disk Utility and run that to fix any errors.

When you use the 10.3 CD to install do not use the Update option. If you have back ups of all your app's and home folder, do a clean install, which will wipe your drive clean and install. Or use the Archive, preserve and install, which will save all your personal settings and install a clean OS folder.

Don't panic just yet. First of all, you are using 10.2.8 and noticed a problem with print Center. You did the right thing with that version tracker application, but i feel you did not go far enough.

1) 10.2.8 (using the standard Software Update) was buggy for some people. Through the whole 10.2.x upgrade package Apple released things call Combo downloadable updates that could update any version of 10.2.x to the latest 10.2.x. This was known to fix a lot of problems with the Software Update downloads. so try out the Apple's 10.2.8 Combo update.

2) Right after you complete that update directly go to applications->Utilties->Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on you X drive.
(note: This should be done after most EVERY software install, regardless if it's from apple or not. This will eliminate a lot of future problems because OS X is BSD Unix based ... and Unix LOVES permissions. However, a lot of Mac developers have a different idea of how permissions are set than Apple.)

3) After you do all this, Then try to install 10.3. see if that works now.

4) you may want to invest into a disk repair software. The two best are DiskWarrior and Tech Tool Pro. These programs will go FAR beyond Disk Utilities' First Aid.

Good Luck.
