Software Update crashes on Java update

SU is showing a new (big) Java update. When I select it, and type in my password, SU crashes every time. I've tried it with all applications closed and downloading this single update (sometimes SU crashes with multiple updates) -- still crashes.

Any ideas?

Terry

Don't use Software Update for this update or the new Safari. Download directly from Apple. A lot of complaints about SU with these updates.

I would also run Repair Permissions from the Disk Utility and then boot from the OS CD and Repair Disk.

Install outside Software Update

I was having the same problem on an iMac. I used Software Update to only download the Java package - there is a menu item to do this. Then I want to /Library/Packages and double-clicked on the Java package to install it. It worked fine.

Hope that helps.

On my BondiMac, SU always crashes when launched from ATM in Apple menu, but works perfectly when launched directly from System Preferences.
