Okay, so you can get past the error above by disabling threads with the --without-threads option, but hey, <em>no threads</em>!
Under the friend-of-a-friend category, my research yielded some insight from a seemingly knowledgeable chap (chap?) Kyle Johnson:Does this ring a bell with anyone? I've not been able to find the pages he refers to.With OSX, thread support is built into the OS, but most UNIX config scripts don't recognize it, so you need to disable thread support (I think using --without-threads in config). There is information on the Darwin site about updating config files to recognize the thread support in OSX, but I haven't had the time to look at it...
