Ian, you should check out search. I once wrote a step by step instruction for making ichat and pc-aol work.
Did you test ichatav with anyone in this forum? Just to make sure you have no probs. Is your friend behind a firewall or router?
Hello,
I am trying to set up iChat to talk to a friend on his PC who is using AIM. I already have the mic and everything set-up and registering in the preferences so I think everything is working at my end. Therefore I have a couple of questions:
a) My friend doesn't have a microphone attached to his PC but I'm just trying to test it to see if he can hear me. Can you please give me step by step instructions as to what he needs to set-up within AIM (PC version) so he can hear me?
b) When his name comes up on my list of buddies it doesn't give me the option for audio chat - why not?
Thanks.
Ian

Thanks for the reply. I have already done a search yesterday and another one today to try to find the instructions but have been unsuccessful. If possible please could you point me in the right direction.
I believe that my friend isn't behind a firewall or Router but I would have to double check. Would a firewall prevent him from receiving audio?
Thanks.
Ian
You won't have either the icon for video or audio if your friend doesn't have a cam or mic connected to the PC.
He also has to have the latest version of AIM (http://www.aim.com) and there is a second file that needs to be downloaded and installed on the PC for it to work. It's on the same page.
And your friend has to be running WindowsXP.
You must run AIM 5.5 with XP. If you still have problem with it and take a look at http://www.aim.com/help_faq/using/win/video_im.adp
Mac Pro 8-Core 3 Ghz, 4GB and 1 TB (Video Editing)
Mac Pro Quad 2.5 Ghz, 4GB and 1 TB (Graphic)
iMac 24" Core 2 Duo 2.33 ghz 2 GB and 500GB (Work)
MacBook Pro 15" LED 2.4ghz 2 GB
iPhone 8GB
why do you say aim? The account is called aim, but the software is aol, right?
(I am nitpicking because I was desperately looking for aim 5.5 and whenever I read aol 5.5 I skipped it..)

I said AIM because you said your friend was using AIM. The software is AIM, unless your friend has AOL as his service provider. AIM is a standalone IM client provided by AOL.
You need to look for the Windows verion on that site.
