Crash in OS X 10.2.8 when copying backup Quicken file from Zip or USB flash memory

Whenever I try to copy the backup file for my Quicken data from my zip drive or USB flash memory, a gray shade descends on my monitor and then a message telling me to restart. This is a very consistent problem so my backup files are useless.

This is a kernel panic. It means something went wrong at the fundamental level of the OS.

How do you have the Zip drive hooked up? Is it hooked up to a hub? Have you tried with the Zip drive connected directly to a USB port on the computer?

I have a SCSCI Zip and a USB flash hooked up directly to my computer.

Since I last wrote, I discovered that the same panic occurs when I try to trash the Quicken file.
