Wild-Horse, there is a version of OS X's open source Darwin kernel that has been ported to the PC. It is a pure command line Unix with none of the GUI and high level features of OS X that make it OS X. (I don't even know whether X11 is available for Darwin or not.) You cannot use Darwin to run either Windows or Macintosh applications but you could run recompiled BSD Unix applications.

Darwin supports X11. You can run GNOME and KDE on it, but seeing as the experience is far from being a Mac experience, I'm not surprised that not many people (sans developers) use it.
