How do I setup a DNS Server - Primary, Secondary

Hi

How do I setup a primary and secondary DNS server under OSX.

I want to get my own domain, but don't want to pay my ISP an arm to handle the DNS part.

You'll need to use bind. Go to www.isc.org/products/BIND/, download the source, and compile it.

Then go to the bookstore and pick up a copy of "DNS and BIND" the O'Reilly book on configuring and setting up DNS.

yep yep

I second that. You will need 2 static IP's. But primarily you'll need coffee, and a lot of patience as you bludgen your way through BIND.

I'm not yet sure if X Server offers a reasonable DNS solution other than BIND. BIND is a pain in the butt.

DNS & Bind

Well, this sounds like too much trouble. I think I will sit back and wait until someone writes a DNS/Bind OSX GUI front end.

If only apple would update MacDNS to OSX.

Thanks for the help.
