Scottfab: About what's wrong with the Finder... There's too many things to tell in one post. *sigh* Read John Siracusas comments about it on arstechnica.com, they're good.

basically, the finder is inconsitent. very inconsistent. it's unpredictable in terms how thigs are expected to work - you open a flder, and suddenly the view changes to icon view. or always is icon view. then changes. i'd like a path/address bar. so i can copy a path into and have it navigate to it (a bit windows-y i know, but its a good feature.) another thing from windows... ish... would be the "up" button as well as or instead of back. and a preview pan in other views than column.... wait... i want windows explorer! the only good thing about windows, that i really miss sometimes is explorer. it's a rock solid, dependable way of navigating and finding stuff. filings systems shoddy, but the way the navigating works is good. makes finder look amateurish. that'd be a wish of mine. another would be more visual options without having download hacks. i'd like to set some translucencies and other things like that - i'd like blue without traffic light close buttons. i'd like better compatibility in safari - i'm tired of sorry - you are using a macintosh.... so bugger off! no - i'm sorry you're using a PC i'd also like an option for pro apps to temporarily strip the system down - when you need to render something intensive, kernal task reduces itself, dashboard quits, caches are flushed and just generally ALL power is moved to that app. is that possible? i dont care. sometimes you think oooh that lloks nice... but isn't slowing the computing down? £0.02

(you can do _that_ yourself. Just quit every other application. As long as you don't invoke Dashboard, it doesn't really hog the CPU. As long as you're just running one main application, it should get all the CPU it needs.)

Is kernal task macOS? i mean is that the actual operating system? is there anyway (hacks or other) to strip it down a bit? its usually the memory hog. i've also found out that command+shitft+g is path in finder

Hehe. Strip down the kernel. Hmm... No, you won't be able to strip down its memory requirements. Yes, that's the core of the operating system.

I agree with the above re dashboard vs Konfabulator. Dashboard wigets need to have the option of remaining visable if desired and optional SMALLER sizes if desired (like Konfabulator. Also, a way of turning dashboard feature off if user does not want it. now it remains running & taking up doc space whether you want it or not

Where did the status go in mail.app 2? I miss being able to see EXACTLY what was going on when I clicked Check Mail. More of a debugging feature than anything. Mostly those of us that may have flakey mail servers... I know there's the twirly thing beside the inbox, but I want my words back! Is it stuck? Is it just slow? Did mail send the password? You get the point. |
