At Last!!!

At last, the opportunity has arrived to vent my spleen. My complaints with MacOS X are shorter than Chicago Larry's ... so here goes....

1. Why can't we have the Apple Menu back? I use FruitMenu from Unsanity. It's OK, but the OS 9 Apple Menu was MUCH better.

2. I quite like the Dock, unlike some folks, but WHY can't the icons be locked in (for example, an icon can only be removed by holding down the ALT key)? Often when I hold down an icon in the dock to look at the contextual menu, the icon slips off the Dock and dissappears in a puff of smoke. This is VERY annoying.

That's it! Off my chest at last!

I am on a roll now .....

I just remembered that 10.2 had a Favorites contextual menu (scrolling down from 'GO' on the top menubar).

I used this as a substitiute Apple Menu to great effect. Then Panther came along and Apple decided to get rid of it. Aaaagh!!!!

I am being a bit obessive about this? Should I see my psychiatrist or should I consult a priest?

i'd like the dock lock thing. i throw icons around far too often....

i'd like a new finder though. i'd like one that works well, instead of just about works

OMG, I just read a novel and didn't plan to. How long did that take? To write not read!

It's true Apple have gone a bit Microslopish in combinening apps together for integration with each other so let's hope they don't do any more of that in the future.

But overall everyone seems to have a majority of things covered in this post and there is to much to go back through and say agree/disagree or what if sort of thing. I'm happy with TIGER

i use it quite a lot. you say you like organising, this is so much better than windows' "dot dot dot after 10 letters." the filenames "client document typefont test 1" and "client document typefont test 2" benefit greatly. the 10 characters to give you the jist, the last few to tell you which one it is. genius. double click the column to see the full names.

Must I simply drag all my music folders onto the library before I go to bed and hope it will figure out which ones I already have, or would I end up with most things duplicated?
no program can do this, currently, that i know of. sorry, itunes works brilliantly, if you just give in to it. i spent years organising my music folders perfectly into heirarchys, in my winamp days. i spent hours in every week doing that. i had to tell winamp to find the new songs everytime. i gave that up a soon as i realised itunes is attempting to remove the need to see folders. it does a fantastic job, automatically, if you let it.

Ideally, am I right to suggest the best thing is to have Tiger on a 200 gig disk in order to keep the 120 gigs of music in the iTunes folder?
turn of "copy all my songs to iTunes library". preferences, advanced.

bugs me too. spotlight needs some contextualising too, while we're at it. search for a song you have four versions of. like lucky dip that one, without going into "show all"

too be fair, a decent, well rounded music library is about 5,000 songs. thats an average user. i have 12,000. i consider this huge. 28,000! apple did NOT have this in mind. you are exceptional, so you can't really blame apple for this. also, get at least 512, if not 768 for OS X to fly, itunes included. i find itunes to be nothing in my memory, it's iphoto that is bigger. (i have 1gb)

Just let me play the darn thing!
column view, click once on the song, up comes a preview in the next column. hit play. to make it more permanent, add it too your itunes library.

i have comment at the the end of the meta columns. if i wanna see comments, i shift-scroll to the end to read.

i am a complete itunes nut, and i was slowly converted by my brother. it is a VERY powerful tool, and, of what i've seen, unmatched in terms of such a wide ranging feature set. the folder organisation, and automation is such a time saver, you soon wished you hadn't spent so much time organisng, though, as i have done it myself in the past, for years, i can see where you are coming from. also, 28,000 songs is a difficult one.

EDIT: it is very late after a hard day at work. sorry for broken english. ps. my signiture is my parents PC/piece-of[shit] computer i am using tempoarily

Thats such a problem for me.

Before I updated to the newest version of Itunes it DID move the files instead of copying them. There does not seem to be an option for that now. I desperately need my folders organized but I hate having copies sitting around and its a hassle to delete them by hand is ther ANY way at all by addon or otherwise to get it back that way or will I need to find that older version of itunes?
