| Is telnet turned on? The default remote login application turned on from the GUI sharing prefs is sshd not telnetd. From OS X, you'd need NiftyTelnet SSH - look for it on Google or some such... ssh port is 22, but telnet client wouldn't do you much good, unless you can do the encryption math in your head. ![]()

| Sorry mate, I meant NiftyTelnet SSH would work from OS 9, not X. Not plain old NiftyTelnet, mind you, but the SSH version. You have to futz about in the connection options somewhere, I think it defaults to telnet - been a while since I used it. Yes, if you turn on remote login in the prefs, that turns on SSH, not telnet. It was telnet in Public Beta, but SSH in the final. Sorry for the confusion.

| nifty innit! Dear Scruff Thanks for the tips , I farted about for ages with nifty Telnet but only when I restarted OSX did it suddenly let me in . Its fine now. cheerio Mark |
