I have ssh and vnc access to my mothers iMac computer in another state.  She recently purchased an airport extreme card along with an airport express.  I thought that Id be able to just VNC into her box as usual to run the AX setup utility to configure her network so that she could then just plug the DSL modem into the AX and get connected.  <br />

My plan would have been fine if her computer was running OS X 10.3.  She is currently only up to 10.2 and...<br />

My school have a netboot system, where every time a computer reboots, it wipes the local HD. I believe this is achieved via the &#039;Customise&#039; option using Automator when the network admins created the netboot share.<br />
<br />
My question is this:<br />
Is there any way to stop the mac from formatting the local HD every time it starts up using the netboot image? I have tried renaming the HD (it just renamed itself back to <i>localhd</i>), and also partitioning it into 2 partitions (both partitions ended up...<br />

However, the airport base station and the wireless router are located in the kitchen where the phone jack is. As a result the signal strength is weak and inconsistent which makes upgrading software and other downloads problematic. Are they devices that will boost the signal strength. <br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Until a few days ago I had a self-installed, perfectly functioning power line wi-fi network based on the modem supplied by my ISP, a Time Capsule, three Zyxel PLA 4211 adapters (one hooked up to the Time Capsule, two in remote locations) and two Airport Expresses (also in the other locations, one communicating with my Apple TV). I made a minor change and everything went down. I&#039;m glad to say the Internet and the Time Capsule are working perfectly again (otherwise I wouldn&#039;t be posting this),...<br />

When I browse to the folder on the Windows machine and look at properties, it is set to Read Only. I can uncheck this box (well, it has a green square, not a checkbox) and Apply, but when I check properties again it&#039;s still set to Read Only.<br />

I was able to work directly on files off the server - pretty big photos, Photoshop documents, zipping/unzipping files - with very little perceived slowness due to working over the network.<br />

Basically what I am trying to achieve is a virtual interface (imitating a physical thunderbolt adapter) that will allow me to create VLAN interfaces and attach them to the created virtual adapter.<br />

I upgraded to a DOCSIS  3.0 cable modem to increase speed.<br />
