G5 an't see Linksys print server

I hooked up my canon MP830 via usb directly to my G5 first to do the initial install and everything worked fine. When I plugged the printer into my linksys print server, my computer does not see the printer/print server. How do I get my computer to see the printer/print server? Please help!

You have to first read the manual and setup the print server. Most home print servers have a web based setup screen. However I am almost certain the Canon driver for Mac USB printers do not support network printing unless explicitly made to do so.

There are two sides of compatibility for a print server. It has to be compatible with your printer. It also has to be compatible with your computer. It appears that the computer end is OK. What is left is the printer end. Suffice it to say, your USB driver will not work in a networked environment. You need a CUPS driver. Google around for a CUPS driver for the Canon PIXMA MP830 or something close to it.

As far as I know, www.printfab.net is the only source of a network-capable (CUPS) driver for the MP830.

If I were you, I'd be asking Canon WHY they don't want us to use their printers on a network. That's why I don't own a Canon printer.

Which print server model, so I can read the manual and tell you how to set up?

i think you misunderstood me. Put the Print servers IP address in your browser and that print server should have a web based setup screen.
