| osx4.8 not connecting to server 9.1????? need some help. Our office is upgrading from 0s 9.2 to osx 4.8. We use a server to share file that runs off of server 9.1. When I upgraded one machine it would no longer access the server. It gave the message""file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. you cannot connect." I know that has to do with the fact that osx fazed out the appleshare. So... how do I connect these upgraded machines to the server with out upgrading the server software.? |

| As an interim measure you could update the server to 9.2.2, which would get the latest version of AFP working on it without breaking anything you currently have running. In fact, when OSX 10.0.0 was first released upgrading your OS9 system to 9.2.2 was a requirement of installation, and OSX wouldn't install until you'd updated OS9.

| The solution is in the Sharing control Panel on regular OS 8-9 (I don't know about server versions). Check the box that says "allow users to connect using TCP/IP." OS X 10.4 doesn't do ANY file sharing using appletalk. It's part of the phase-out of appletalk. |

| I tired to change the settings on the server to allow for the tcp/ip, but the settings are different on the server version than the regular os 9.2. Go figure. I found some software called opendoor [url="http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/"] I think I can install this on the server and it should allow for the tcp/ip. Has anyone tried it? |
