Unhappy Battling to re-connect to Windows machines

All has run well with my new Mac mini until the last two days when I started messing with the network ing. I first lost all contact with the windoze boxes but solved that by spotting that I had set the firewall to 'Allow only essential services'. A change and it all came back!

Next 'mistake' was to try to set up VNC (Vineserver on the Mac, tight and UltraVNC on the others) between the boxes. Two saw the Mac and worked slowly but OK but the other one didn't. About the same time I installed youDesktop and CoRD as another solution. Oh yes, I also too one of the machines' password off the Keyring and still need to find out how to put it back...

I need a list to tell me how to clear (what?)stuff off to get the network 'clean' again. Is there one?

Any suggestions about which PC&Mac work-togethers are worth using?

Thanks,

ChrisM
