Switching DSL service from Earthlink to AT&T

I had no problems with Earthlink except for the $39.95 a month charge. AT&T is half that. So I switched. Or so I thought.

I can't seem to figure out how to configure my new account. In troubleshooting my problem, I read this post -- http://macosx.com/tech-support/mac/s...port/9517.html

That helped explain my problem (trying to use PPoE), but didn't solve it. One person at AT & T was very helpful, but that was for an earlier problem -- I never even received instructions on how to sign up.

So the question: Can I switch from Earthlink, with a Zyxel modem, to AT & T, and if so, how? Or do I need to start over and get a new modem from AT & T. I thought I might have connected, but AT & T said they couldn't tell me if I was connnected b/c they don't support this modem.

I tried what was suggested in the post above and used DHCP. But there was no place to actually enter my sbcglobal.net username and password. The only place was in the PPoE section. So I'm pretty sure I'm still with my old system.

I can explain a lot more, but that's the basic problem. I have an iMac and airport and it all works fine now, but I'm pretty sure I'm still with Earthlink. I've opened up the Network preferences and moved through them about 20 times now and can't figure out where I switch. I also unplugged everything and tried to reset but that didn't give me any opportunity to enter the new login. Any ideas before I try ATT for the 7th or 8th time and talk to someone who can't help me?

You will probably need one of the 2Wire modems from AT&T - i am surprised they
did not provide one when they set up your DSL.

Thanks for your note.

I assumed they were going to send me their modem in the first place, but when they didn't and I called, I got this idea that I could use the modem I have.

Given how much frustration I 've already had, it would have been better to just get their modem. I just thought there might be a way to make it work with the modem I have. There probably is, but it may not be worth my time to figure it out.
