Red face Problems setting Wep Security on an Airport Network

Hi,

I have an Airport base station and two Airport express base stations in my home network. I want to set up 128bit wep security on the network, but when I try to set it up on the base station the express units disappear and when I've tried to set it up on the individual express units they disappear too. Any ideas?

Hi,

It sounds like you are extending the range of the airport extreme with your expresses using WDS.
If that is so, change security on the expresses first. They will disappear after you update them because they are no longer part of the WDS network, and so, aren't visible to Airport Utility.
Once you update the extreme however, the expresses will reconnect to it with the new security settings.
Leave them be for 2 or 3 minutes, the lights will flash and change colors a couple of times too.
Once they turn green, you should be up and running again.

Do you still have devices that are WEP only? If not, I recommend using something like WPA or WPA2 instead of WEP which is horribly broken.
