| Help needed getting my DELL 5150 to see my G3 running OS 9.2 ?
Hi there guys. I had a G5 running Tiger that did all my communication with my G3 running OS 9 which I use for scanning docs etc (Linotype Saphir Ultra). My G5 died on me today with a bill of 300 Euros to fix... so I was hoping some one of you genius people types out there might know of a way of either getting my DELL Dimensions 5150 to see me G3 or vice versa. Any help or assistance most welcome. Cheers. Regards, Anthony Irish MacUser & MacAddict |

Or... if anyone also know how to get a G3 to communicate with 10.5.7 that would work also.... but I have been onto Apple Support Direct and the have told me they have dropped support on OS9 and will not give me any additional info. Cheers. Regards, Anthony Irish MacUser & MacAddict |

For OS 9 and earlier, you might be able to use Thursby Software's DAVE solution to communicate with the Windows PC. Here's a link to Versiontracker with a version for OS 9 and earlier, as the latest version doesn't support it anymore: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/17527 Leopard (and previous version of OS X down to Jaguar) have Windows Sharing built-in. Just head to System Preferences and select that Sharing pane.

I use NetPresenz FTP server for OS 8/9 Macs running legacy software: http://www.stairways.com/main/netpresenz This allows both Mac and PC clients to "grab their data" from the old Macs. If I remember correctly, you can connect for AFP file sharing from OS X if you go to the sharing control panel on OS 9 and click on "Allow users to connect using TCP/IP." |
