| computer-to-computer network showing up
There's a computer-to-computer network showing up on the list of networks when I click on the airport icon. Might be a dumb questiong but anyone know whether this means my computer is involved? I turned off all sharing. |

Now what version of OS X are you running? When you say you clicked on the "Airport icon" do you mean the Airport icon in the menu bar?

Is the computer-to-computer network originating from your computer, or is it showing someone else's computer-to-computer network?

Satcomer, I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11 (Tiger i guess it is?). The little Aiport icon in the menu bar, yes. ElDiabloCon..., you ask, "Is the computer-to-computer network originating from your computer?" Well that's what i'm trying to find out. All it says under the airport drop-down list of wi-fi networks is "Computer-to-Computer Networks: SFRK". I only started seeing this show up in the last month. I wana make sure MY computer isn't unknowingly a part of this network, whereever or whatever "SFRK" is. |

"SFRK" sounds like a computer name. Is your computer named "SFRK?" If not, then I don't think you have anything to worry about. Many networks may show up under the AirPort icon in the menubar depending on how many wireless networks are within range of your computer -- but that doesn't mean that you're actually connected to any of them (unless there's a checkmark next to one), and it doesn't mean that any computers on any of those unchecked networks can "see" your computer. It's basically saying, "Hey, here are some close-by networks that you can elect to join, if you so choose." All wireless networks "broadcast" information about themselves (even ones with hidden SSIDs) so that wireless clients can "find" them and connect to them. I believe this is what you're seeing and it's perfectly normal. If this isn't what you're seeing or you suspect something else, please explain.
