    help with mixed wired/wireless network

    Hi,

    My girlfriend has just purchased a nifty G4 tower which I am trying to get networked with my PB 667.

    We have a SMC 4-port WAP with a cable modem for net access. She's plugged in to the SMC via an ethernet cable while I am connected via my airport card.

    We've had problems connecting certain things this way: Rendevous iChat, iTunes playlist sharing, etc.

    When I plug my PB into the SMC via an ethernet cable the iChat works and iTunes sharing works as well.

    Am I missing something that I need to do to make this work?

    Thanks for your help.

    Evan

    Sounds like the wired and wireless networks do not share the same subnet. Check the documention of the SMC if it is possible to define a common subnet for both.

    hi, thanks for the response.

    they are both on the same subnet, so i don't think that's the issue.

    i took a look at the routers setup options and couldn't find anything that worked. tried messing with MAC filtering but that seemed to have no effect.

    anyone else have any ideas?

    thanks again.

    You need to describe your IP addressing more. Are you getting addresses via DHCP from the provider? Or are you handing out your own addresses with the SMC and doing NAT?

    Make sure these ports are open on the Router;

    Port 5298 for iChat (local traffic), Rendezvous

    Port 3689 for iTunes Music Sharing
