| Wireless networking
I have a old desktop G3 and i was wondering is i could some how make it support 802.11b, not necessarily airport(its a bit out of my budget) and im also going to have an imac on this network, will the airport slot in the back take other 802.11b cards?

If the G3 desktop has USB then you can most likely get a USB wireless adapter for it. They also sell PCI wireless networking cards as well. As for the iMac, I'd say it's doubtful that you could use another card other than an Airport card.

It is possible to use the USB adapter on the iMac as well, but the Airport slot in the back won't accept other types of cards. In fact, if it's a G3 iMac (CRT style) you also would have to get an Airport adapter to install the card properly.....it would probably end up being less expensive to get a USB wireless networking device than get the Airport card and adapter.
