OS9 to Panther, served by Linux

Had an Irix-based 100Gb server until not too long ago, migrated to .9Tb Linux-based device.

Initially chose EXT3 file system but am having user complaints from those (9 users) still on OS9 who access Linux server via AppleTalk.

My Jaguar G4 uses NFS & I have less problems, but want to know:

1.) Should I "convert" from EXT3 to XFS;

2.) Will Panther likely improve network perfomance once everyone uses NFS & we can toss AppleTalk finally?

Making the EXT3-to-XFS move is much less of a problem than upgrading the G4's to Panther, once it becomes available.
