    smb networking from linux server

We use a multi-user database program at our office, and are licensed for several concurrent users. We recently had to move the data file to a new server, one based in linux. We access the server through a smb address, but once we moved the data file to the new server, only one person can access the database at a time. We get an access is not available message, whenever anyone else attemps to log in to the database. All the client computers are running either MacOS X 10.2.8 or 10.3.2. I have been talking to the server support people and they indicate that they believe the server is working as it should be. Is their something else that needs to be done so multiple people can concurrently access the server?

Affected client computers range from imacs to Powerbooks to Dual G4 PowerMacs.

The database application is Clients and Profits Pro which is an agency management system that I believe was built on the Omnis Software platform.
