Site support - where are we?

I hope I don't wake up the bear, but it seems the ads have disappeared. At first I thought it might be to minimize traffic with the WWDC, but they haven't been back --- yet.

Is it that the budget for the site has been covered? If that's the case was it the ads themselves that made up the revenue shortfall or was it that so many got so annoyed they sent money to stop them?

In any case, how can we - as a group - do something to make sure the site stays up with minimum inconvenience for users and only technical inconvenience for Scott?

I don't know much about the fundraising models of clickdough or those other scams, but someone was making money on internet advertising somewhere. Dot Com burst or no, the models must still be there working, just not as well.

Seems there are two kinds of people interested in internet advertising, the known - looking to keep their name in everyone's face - and the unknown - looking for me to click and check it out or buy something.

The former is painless, the latter annoying.

Is there a way to get the former (or a bunch of the formers) to buy *time* with a young, highly educated (just don't tell them we're poor) group. The name recognition ads could be tagged to the post notices that the board sends out every day. I imagine that there are hundreds every day.

Or something else... any ideas that won't back Scott into a corner where he has to be savage and shut down?

Actually the meter wasn't a bad bit, even though it wasn't moving from the 73% for ages.

OK, I'll shut up. Hope I haven't awakened the bear, but seems proactive is always the better choice.

Actually, the meter is at 78%. Doesn't move very fast because well, donations aren't coming in but at a snails pace.

We were able to sell the ads, so we took them off.

The need still exists... just apparently those who are the giving type have already given, those who aren't or can't, haven't.
