| Looking for someone interested in earning some extra $$$ to port an app (actually and install script)? It is the user side of a CD search utility. It istalled Jigsaw and Lucene and then runs some javascript to search PDF's and other files for scientific research information. I have installes for Windows and Solaris, but I desperately need one for a MAC. If anyone is interested in helping to get this to work (for free or for $$$), please contact: Mitchell W. | I might be interested, but don't know how much of my time I could promise. And I'm not too clear on a couple of things: You say, it's an install script that installs "Jigsaw and Lucene" - pardon my ignorance, but I haven't heard of those programs - do you have a link to a page that describes them? Are there even Mac versions of *those* available? And then it "runs some Javascript to search PDFs and other files" ? Java **SCRIPT**? So it runs in a web browser? Please clarify.

| When I get in to work tomorrow, I will post some of the scripts in a message. Jigsaw and Lucene are java apps that "should" be platform independent. They are open source. Jigsaw is a webserver and lucene is a search engine. To answer your other question... Yes, everything runs from within a web browser. |

| I have attached a zip file containing the install script. There are other files associated with this including two tar archives that are 11MB and 25MB. These contain the java for Jigsaw, Lucene, JRE (which we don't need for Mac) and the java/html for the actual query. I would have to put these on an FTP for you to get them if you are interested. Please take a look and tell me what you think. Quote:

| Doesn't look TOO hard. A few questions -- Are you hoping to produce a universal script that will work in OSX as well as other unix OS's? Or would you be open to a seperate, mac-only version? If a Mac-only version is acceptable, did you want to stick with Unix shell scripts, or is a graphical install (using , say, a .pkg or applescript) acceptable? Do you want to limit your browser choices just to netscape?

| We have a working PC version with a graphical install. I think for our audience, a graphical install would be much better (they are researchers and near computer illiterate). A Mac-only version if fine, since we have the PC version. I know that means two seperate installs on a PC. I just hate to mess with something that is working. It should support both netscape and IE, as the PC version does. If you need anything else, just let me know. I can either put all the files on an FTP or overnight a CD to you. Once you figure out if it is definately do-able, we can talk pricing. I can't offer you a lot, but I know the company we bought this software from will license the Mac install from us (which you can have). Let me know your e-mail address so we can talk more privately. | I sent you a private message thru this site with my email address. IF you click the "user cp" icon, you should be able to read it. Let me know if you don't see it.
