Installing software like Creative

I have an MP3 player from a brand called Creative. To load it with the podcasts I have downloaded on my Mac, I have to download the Creative software.

I want to install the CD of this software into my Macbook 10.4.10 OSX.

But unlike in Windows, where the CD opened automatically, Mac says "There is no default application specified to open this"......

How do I go about installing the software, can it be done? Thanks in advance for any help. Getting these podcasts is important for me because they are all language lessons I paid for.

It sounds like you have a media CD rather than a data CD. Of course, you can always use the Finder to browse the files on the disc. That said, I really believe that you are barking up the wrong tree. You did not specify which model Creative MP3 player you have. However, all of their players that I see are Windows Media playsforsure which requires Windows Media Player 11, a Windows-only player for a Windows-only format.

Perhaps, you need to clarify what you are trying to do.

Depending on your product, their may be a mac driver available from Creative Labs:

I imagine the cd you have is pc based and has .exe files on it that can't be opened on a mac (called executables, they self extract).

You are right, the CD I have is PC-based, and when I contacted Creative, I found that they do not have anything Mac-based! So now, I guess I have to download my podcasts in Mac, cos I subscribed to the podcast websites from ITunes, and then put them on a thumb-drive and take it to my old PC, and then put into my Creative.

Would not have bought Mac if I knew about this problem, I guess. But I think also that it is upto Creative to come up with a Mac-based CD!

There's an easier way. Get iTunes for PC and set it to load mp3 files, not AAC (preferences/import). Then connect your CreativeLabs player to the pc and load the mp3 files directly to it. Not sure if iTunes is compatible with it but at least you can drag and drop the mp3 files into the player.

It is loading MP3 files, but the problem is that the MP3 player does not connect or open in the computer unless the software is installed....I should have got an ipod, or stayed with the pc
